True to his calling

In 1984 I noticed an article on Courage in the National Catholic Register which I picked up at a local Church.  I wrote to them and they put me in touch with Fr. Harvey.

I met him in New York soon after,  at Seton House - one of their meetings.  I attended a meeting there and was welcomed among the members and of course Fr. Harvey was there being his amiable self, always pleasant, never too tired to meet and pray with his followers, doing God's work. This was our initial meeting as I remember. Much correspondence followed and subsequent trips. Fr. Harvey was always willing to make many trips to Toronto to help out here, and never refused. It was not always convenient for him, and probably entailed some expense of his own and hardship, which wasn't new to Fr. Harvey.

Eventually on one of Fr. Harvey's trips to Toronto, we met the officials at the Chancery here at the Archdiocese of Toronto, and later at my apartment for a meeting with a few potential members, and the ground work was started for a Courage chapter in Toronto.

A dedicated priest, true to his calling in every respect

Fr. Harvey was always pleasant, willing to go beyond the extra mile to help, always available. He was untiring in his efforts to minister to the people of Courage. We had many occasions to have Fr. Harvey with us; he made himself available, in spite of his demands as a scholar and his other duties. Again, I am sure he even paid for many of his own expenses at times. He was present for our many celebrations and events - our initial one with auxiliary Bishop Clune and Chaplain Fr. Canning at St. Isaac Jocques Parish, Pickering.  I never remember him refusing to be with us, tirelessly working for the establishment and work of Courage and helping those striving to live a chaste life to follow the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Nothing was too much work for him, as he was dedicated to doing God's work.

He worked tirelessly (like the Energizer bunny), forever on the move, in the U.S. and elsewhere - a dedicated priest, true to his calling in every respect.  I often wondered how he had all the energy to do the many things he accomplished. He was always approachable, and congenial, taking time for everyone regardless of his demands.  I am sure it was the grace of God that got him through many times. He always had time for prayer. I was honoured to have associated with this holy man. He was a humble man of God, a white Martyr we might say.  He deserves to be honoured by the Church for his outstanding work over many years.
